Delhi Bombings - where next?
Three bombs exploded simultaneously in the Indian capital, Delhi, on Saturday, killing 62 people and injuring 210.
On Monday, India has indicated that Islamic militant groups based in Pakistan, or having links to them, were involved in the bombings.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said India expected Pakistan to act against terrorism while in a telephone conversation with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
Such sophitiscated and concurrent attacks - with three bombs going off in succession and with great intensity - could only be the work of a few groups known to them. Chief suspects are on several Kashmiri Islamic militant groups such as Lashkar-e-Toiba, one of the most powerful groups and based in Pakistan.
In view of such carnage, it seems not wrong that Delhi should blame Pakistan for harbouring groups that were behind the attacka. Pakistan was quick to condemn the attacks too, describing it as barbaric. And hours after the blasts, both countries announced a landmark agreement to open border in disputed Kashmir, to allow relief to reach victims of the recent earthquake. India and Pakistan have been involved in a long-running dispute over the territory of Kashmir. At least some good has come out of this afterall.
So who is behind this latest attack?
A group calling itself the Islami Inqilabi Mahaz (Islamic Revolutionary Group), claiming to be based in Kashmir, says it carried out the attack.
Have you noticed that the Saturday bomb blasts in Delhi were targeting innocent civilians instead of political and government buildings like in the past. The middle class Indians were just out shopping in view of the Deepavali festive holidays that were round the corner. One of the reasons could be that it is now increasing difficult for the terrorists to target highly secured government facilities. This spells bad news to us, civilians.
Extra armed police have been sent to patrol the streets and residents have been urged to stay alert. Meanwhile, the United Nations has condemned the triple bomb blasts and called for those behind them to be brought to justice. Many leaders from other Islamic nations have also condemn the blasts. Can we see more concrete action, please?
As a civilian, my anxiety is after Delhi, where next?
Nowadays, it is no longer a shock and a surprise to witness little children and teens being brainwashed to carry suicide bombs into crowded areas because they are told that it is the quickest way to go to heaven. My question is how much are the moderate Muslims acting against this type of terrorism. (If they do not take up the task of policing these Islamic militants, then do not brand the US as anti-Islam when they do). Terrorism knows no boundaries and does not distinguish among races/religion.
With such advance in technology in manufacturing minute- nuclear bombs, the reality of destroying humanity with several widespread attacks is coming true. Many suicide bombers would be willingly pleased to carry nuclear bombs to kill 100,000 people even 300,000 with the opinion that Allah will be more pleased rather than just killing 62 in a marketplace.
