call to action

get active...
what does being an ASEAN scholar meant to you?do you realise you're a chosen one?i came here and realised that i wans't as stuck-in-a-small-town-under-a-coconut-shell as i thought i previously was. suddenly i realise i can make a difference. that my decisions and actions can actually catalyse a change, perhaps in our family, our community or even our country.you, especially you, being an ASEAN scholar, have been given the privelege to learn first-hand experience from a First world country. you have insider information, albeit a little glossed over as singapore tend to picture perfect everything to you. nonetheless you have experienced an 'out-of-the-box' experience that your fellow friends in malaysia can only dream of.you are equipped and empowered with the knowledge, the insights and the alternative point-of-view so badly required to precipitate change in Malaysia.

last month, Malaysia blogger Nathaniel Tan was detained by the policehttp://www.globalvoicesonline.org/2007/07/13/malaysia-blogger-detained-by-police/

then the Parliament decides to clampdown on Malaysia vibrant blogging scenehttp://www.suaram.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=540&Itemid=1

already our newspapers, local publications are being censored, both by the government, or self-censored, to avoid discussion of 'sensitive' issues...the public turns to blogs and now the government wants to regulate the virtual arena too.

isnt it time we got involved in out nation's affairs?
