This is a front page ad by the militant government of Myanmar trying to create an illusion of normality. Foreign media, is banned from reporting in Burma, and anyone speaking to a reporter would face a stiff jail term if military intelligence officials discovered what they were doing.... The government is also trying to play down the scale of the protests and the ensuing crackdown, saying they were the result of a few "destructive elements" fomented with the help of outside broadcasters such as the BBC Burmese Service and Voice of America.
The military junta is acting like a dictator when even the open conversation of daily happenings in the capital of Myanmar [Burma] is considered a capital offense.
In many similar ways, many other governments are also practicing the same principles. They may not shoot innocent civilians but the harassment of the police and ruling political parties is enough to tell us that there is no true freedom in such situations.
We are not asking for open defiance of law enforcement or the disputes of righteous justice. What the citizens of the nations want is an openness for creative and constructive criticism because their lives within the communities are at stake.
Our Prime Minister has confessed that hot issues do exist and it is a sign of democratic maturity to be able to confront these issues constructively so that there is better understanding among all the different races and diverse religious groups in the country.
Do we want our country to be ruled like Myanmar?
Will the people in Myanmar be happier when ruled under fear and retribution?
How should the Malaysians, considering that Myanmar is one of our neighboring countries, assist Myanmar to be a more friendlier and civilized country?
