Australia is saving the world

Australian Labor Party leader Kevin Rudd has been sworn in as prime minister, following a landslide victory in parliamentary elections last week.

Immediately after the ceremony, he signed documents to ratify the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, reversing the previous administration's policy.

"This is the first official act of the new Australian government," he said...BBC

And guess what? The Climate Change and Water Minister is non other than a Malaysian Sabahan born named: Penny Wong. Her father is still a practicing architect in Sabah.

He said his government would do "everything in its power" to help Australia meet its Kyoto obligations - and has set a long-term target of cutting carbon emissions by 60% of 2000 levels by 2050.

Hooray for the new Prime Minister of Australia. It is an important step towards a better world and a more sustainable environment. The previous Prime Minister refused to sign the Kyoto treaty because of immense political pressure from US and other multi-national companies' interests.

Thank God for leaders who dare to act acccording to what is right contrary to economic desires.

Would our government go green too?
